About Al-Islam

The name Islam (or formerly Al-Islam) is particularly significant because it describes the essence of our faith. In the Holy Qur'an G-d describes the religion of Al- Islam as Deen Al-Fitrah, which means the religion established on the laws and principles which uphold creation. Islam is designed to appeal to our intellects so that we will be able to make the best use of our lives. Our religion is a religion of faith, knowledge, and logic. It is the fulfillment of the missions of all the prophets who led society to a faith that recognizes the existence of the One Creator and the obligation of every creature to Him.

Al-Islam wants peace for the whole world of mankind, and for the human family. We are to promote peace, not only for ourselves, but peace for the world. The religions of Al-Islam, Christianity, and Judaism are connected, and the believers in these faiths are also connected. We are connected by faith in the same G-d and faith in the plan for mankind that our Creator gave us when He created us. Then He sent inspired men to guide us. We have faith in the life of mankind that G-d chose for us when He created us. One of the beautiful names of G-d is As-Salam (The Peace). Al-Islam means to be at peace with G-d and his creatures. Being at peace with creatures implies living in peace with one's self, with other people and with the environment. Al-Islam is a total system of living in peace.

One who follows Al-Islam is called a Muslim. A Muslim is a person who freely and willingly accepts the supreme authority of G-d and strives to organize his or her life in accordance with G-d's commandments. Al-Islam teaches that diversity among human beings is a sign of G-d's mercy, and no one has superiority based on one's color, language or nationality. Al-Islam promotes the unity of humanity, toleration of one another, sympathy for the unfortunate, and cooperation for the general human happiness. One of the aims of Al-Islam is to emphasize the oneness of the Creator and the oneness of humanity. It protects human rights, freedom, equality, justice, and the right to life, liberty and security.
